Thanks for that, it was really interesting.
When I was a little girl in the 60’s, my mother always made sure we had our white gloves, black patent mary-janes, and a hat to go to church. When I was 9, I got my first stockings and garter belt. Then pantyhose came out, and nothing was ever the same again. Seems like overnight we went from dressing like little ladies and gentlemen to first ‘mod’ and then hippies. (and that’s about when mom stopped sewing our clothes. how can you compete with a pair of jeans that would wear like iron?)
I don’t regret the freedom that comes with not being considered properly ‘dressed’ unless you were wearing a girdle (whether you needed one or not!), still something has been lost, in terms of style.
