Allow me to correct your overly rosy picture of Germany a bit:
German soldiers are currently deployed and fighting to protect national interests in (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auslandseins%C3%A4tze_der_Bundeswehr#Laufende_Eins.C3.A4tze) wars, conflict zones or high-risk areas. That’s hardly pacifist.
According to [PISA](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Programme_for_International_Student_Assessment), the results of German students are merely slightly above average compared with the other OECD countries – and that *consistently* since the program started in 2000.
Performance of public education aside, believe me, the percentage of dumb, ignorant and misinformed people here is just as high as in the UK, US or anywhere else in the developed world.
>without patriotism, antisemitism and all that crap
Sadly, this is far from true. Since reunification, at the latest, an increasingly chauvinistic, nationalist mindset articulates itself ever more openly with each passing year. In all areas of society, but especially among the (higher) middle class. And I don’t “just” mean the flag-waving and “SIEG”-chanting of German soccer fans, I’m talking about outright violent outbursts such as [these](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rostock-Lichtenhagen_riots) or [these](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Socialist_Underground) (take note here of all those little circumstances indicating involvement of government officials).
Of course, only a relatively small number of marginalised people are radical enough to actually incite violence, but chauvinistic, xenophobic and racist views are far more widespread here than anyone officially likes to admit. As my source for this I’d list “Deutsche Zustände” by Heitmeyer et al., but that’s a series of sociologic studies – in German – so, yeah. [Here](http://www.ijcv.org/index.php/ijcv/article/viewFile/17/17) is an article written by members of the same research group though, pretty much on-topic.
Since you’ve mentioned anti-semitism specifically, [here](http://www.adl.org/press-center/press-releases/anti-semitism-international/adl-survey-in-ten-european-countries-find-anti-semitism.html) is an article citing a study that shows Germany to be no exception at all in Europe. About 20% of Germans hold anti-semitic views.
**tl,dr** Don’t let the headlines fool you. Germany is about as resource-grabbing, dumbed-down and chauvinistic as any other nation in the Western World of the 21st century. And what Edge767 said about Eastern Europe holds true here as well. Only our history is a little different…
